Arque Construction Exeter University Harrison Building Roof

A project completed in 2010 as main contractors and working with Western Flat Roofing and IKO Waterproofing PLC Group has been entered into a national competition held by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors.  The finals of this competition are in May 2011 to be held in London.

The roof of the Harrison Building on the University of Exeter main campus was worked on using the IKO Guardian Waterproofing System.  This system was chosen by our client after consultation with all parties on what was needed to fulfill the clients brief for this roof.  The IKO Guardian waterproofing system has a very unique graphite fire wall technology within its makeup of the mineral cap sheet.  When heat is applied to the system the graphite crystals within the reinforced bitumen's membrane expand, to deflect the heat away and leave the waterproofing system intact against acts of vandalism and fire.  The IKO Guardian system has a variety of different components comprising of both SA (self adhesive) & T-O (Torch-On) vapour barrier, IKO Enerthern foil based insulation, self adhesive IKO system underlay and IKO ultra prevENt capsheet.

Arque Ltd as main contractors worked in conjunction with IKO to fulfil the client's brief.  All requirements were met from both sides and the project was sucessfully managed avoiding any disturbance to those in the immediate area.  Matt Hooper - Project Manager from Arque also commented "that this project was particularly challenging because of the asbestos soffit".
